A famous scenic spot in Atami
Nishikigaura is a well-known scenic area in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture. At first glance, it hardly looks like the kind of place people would call a haunted spot. Located near the gateway to the Izu Peninsula, the area is known for its dramatic coastline, where steep cliffs continue for about one kilometer south of Uomizaki.
From Uomizaki to Sogaura via Nishikigaura, the distance is about two kilometers. It is considered one of Shizuoka’s most beautiful coastal views. When the morning sun rises and its light falls across the inlet, the shore is said to shine with dazzling, five-colored brilliance. Because of this resemblance to the brocade weaving of Kyoto, the area came to be called Nishikigaura.
Nishikigaura is also historically significant. The landscape still shows traces of the Atami-Taga Volcano, and there are local traditions connected to major historical figures such as Minamoto no Yoritomo and Kato Kiyomasa. The cliffs are roughly 80 meters high, and unusual rock formations shaped by rough waves stand along the coast, including Kabuto Rock, Kiban Rock, Eboshi Rock, and Benten Rock.
Why Nishikigaura became known as a haunted place
Despite its fame as a scenic destination, Nishikigaura is also known in Shizuoka as a haunted spot. The reason is its reputation as a place associated with deaths by suicide.
With cliffs this high and steep, a fall would almost certainly be fatal. Rumors claim that the total number of people who have died here is extremely large. According to one account, several hundred people are said to have lost their lives at this location, though such numbers should be treated as local rumor rather than confirmed fact.
One story says that if you stand near the cliff edge at Nishikigaura, you may hear groaning voices, as if something is trying to drag you down toward the sea. Others claim that some people who had no intention of ending their lives were pulled in by the spirits of the dead and fell from the cliffs.
Because many spirits are said to linger here with resentment toward the living world, Nishikigaura is also rumored to be a place where ghostly figures or strange anomalies often appear in photographs.
Visiting with caution
Nishikigaura remains a beautiful coastal area, but its cliffs are dangerous. If you visit, stay in legal public areas, keep well away from cliff edges, avoid going at night or in bad weather, and do not enter restricted areas. The local legends may be unsettling, but the real physical danger of the terrain should be taken seriously.

静岡県の心霊スポットとして、ご紹介させて頂くのは、錦ヶ浦です。錦ヶ浦とは静岡県熱海市熱海にある景勝地として有名な場所なっています。静岡県熱海市の心霊スポット【錦ヶ浦】の場所はここ。。静岡心霊スポットとは思えない景観の良さ。静岡の伊豆の玄関として名を馳せており、魚見崎の南から約1キロメートルもの距離を断崖が続く景観となっています。なお、静岡の魚見崎から錦ヶ浦経由して曽我浦までは約2キロメートルの距離となっています。静岡の中では非常に美しい場所として知られており、朝日が顔を覗かせるときには、光が浦に降り注ぎ眩いばかりの五色の光を発して輝くことから、京の「錦織」のからその名称いただき、錦ヶ浦と称されるようになったのです。
また、静岡の歴史的にも非常に重要な土地として登場しており、熱海多賀火山の名残があり、源頼朝や加藤清正などの歴史上重要な人物に由来する伝承も存在しています。崖の高さについては、約80メートル程度あります。荒波により生成された兜岩や基盤岩、烏帽子岩、弁天岩などの珍しい岩々がそびえ立っています。静岡有数の心霊スポットになった所以とは。このように、静岡の景勝地として非常に有名な錦ヶ浦ですが、心霊スポットとしても有名なのです。それは、自殺の名所として心霊スポット的に扱われているのです。
これだけの断崖絶壁です。飛び降りれば間違いなく命はないでしょう。また、心霊スポットとして有名になっているのが、自殺者トータル数も相当であると噂されているからです。一説によりますと、この心霊スポットでは、数百名もの自殺者がここで命を落としたと言われています。静岡の自殺する場所であり心霊スポットとして有名な錦ヶ浦では、現地の断崖絶壁のそばに立つと、立ったものを引きずり込んでしまうかのようなうめき声が聞こえてくるといった話もあります。まさに、心霊スポットとして恥じない噂ではないでしょうか。
自殺を志願していないにも関わらず、心霊スポットとしての力からか、亡くなった霊に引きずり込まれてしまい、断崖絶壁から飛び込んでしまったのだという話もあります。まこの心霊スポットでは現世に恨みを持つものが多いからなのか、霊の数も非常に多いと言われているため、心霊写真が頻繁に撮影できると言われています。今回は静岡県に位置する心霊スポットである錦ヶ浦について紹介させて頂きました。不用意に近づくと、自殺した死者により断崖絶壁よりひきずりこまれてしまうかもしれません。
