In northern Osaka, near the borders with Kyoto and Hyogo prefectures, stands Mount Myoken. Although it is a relatively high mountain, it is also known as an approachable climb for beginners and is sometimes treated as a gateway hike for new mountaineers.
But on one part of Mount Myoken, there is a site often described as one of Osaka’s most frightening haunted places: Shiokiba, a historical site on the north side of the mountain dating back to the Edo period.
The word “shioki” may sound like a simple punishment, but in the Edo period it referred to the punishment of criminals. In other words, Mount Myoken’s Shiokiba is said to be the remains of an execution ground.
The Location and History of Shiokiba
Shiokiba lies deep in a complicated mountain area. Visitors generally have to drive as close as possible and then continue on foot. A torii gate marks the entrance, making the approach recognizable. The area with a small hut is considered the former execution site, and nearby stands a memorial monument built to console the spirits of the dead.
At the foot of Shiokiba, a river runs through the area. It is commonly known as the Neck-Washing River, and this river itself is also treated as a haunted spot.
The history of Shiokiba is said to go back as far as the medieval Sengoku period. According to local accounts, two villages once stood nearby, and conflict between them continued for years, causing many deaths.
Seeing how severe the situation had become, the ruler Toyotomi Hideyoshi is said to have ordered the dispute settled by selecting five representatives from each village and carrying out an “exchange execution.” Afterward, five people from each village were reportedly handed over and executed.
That place is believed to be the origin of Shiokiba. A memorial monument from that time is said to still remain.
From the end of the Edo period into the Taisho era, the site was reportedly used as an actual execution ground for criminals. At Shiokiba, prisoners were mainly executed by beheading or crucifixion. After beheading, the severed heads were washed in the river at the foot of the site—the Neck-Washing River—then displayed publicly and left until they decayed.
A Haunted Place Even Spiritualists Avoid?
Because Mount Myoken’s Shiokiba is well known in the Kansai region as a haunted location, many people have visited it on dare-based ghost hunts. However, many of those stories describe disturbing physical sensations: a heavy atmosphere, intense pressure, pain around the neck, or nausea caused by the stagnant feeling of the air, even among people who do not consider themselves sensitive to spirits.
There are also accounts claiming that spiritualists involved in exorcisms or paranormal filming refused to enter or continue at the site. More recently, the paranormal YouTube group Uma Dura Video and the spiritualist Kuroinu reportedly visited Shiokiba, only to suffer poor health afterward. They strongly warned others not to go.
If the people executed there were truly guilty, some might see the site as a grim matter of historical punishment. But according to rumors about the time, many people may have been beheaded despite being innocent. When a crime occurred and the real culprit could not be found, it is said that “someone” was executed in the culprit’s place.
If many people died there carrying that kind of resentment, it is not hard to understand why Shiokiba became associated with curses and hauntings.
If You Go, Be Extremely Careful
Shiokiba is a real mountain site, not a theme-park attraction. If you plan to visit, check local access rules, do not enter restricted areas, avoid going alone or at night, and prepare for rough terrain.
Sneakers or hiking boots with good grip are strongly recommended. The ground can be muddy, and rotting leaves can make the path slippery. There are past stories of people who went exploring the haunted site and ended up falling into a valley.
Was it an accident, or something more sinister? The truth is unknown. But Shiokiba has earned its reputation as one of Osaka’s most feared haunted places.

大阪の北部に、京都府と兵庫県の県境にまたがる 「妙見山（みょうけんざん）」 という山があります。標高は高いものの初心者でも登りやすいため、登山の登竜門としても有名です。実はこの妙見山の一角に、 大阪最恐といわれる心霊スポット があります。それが妙見山の北側にある 江戸時代の史跡、「しおき場」 です。「しおき」というと、悪いことをした子どもに罰を加える 「おしおき」 を想像すると思います。ですが「しおき」とは、江戸時代には 罪人を処罰する ことを意味します。
つまり妙見山のしおき場とは、 江戸時代の 処刑場 の跡地 なんです。今回は大阪最恐といわれる心霊スポット、妙見山の処刑場跡地「しおき場」の 歴史 や 恐怖体験 を紹介します。▼本当の恐怖動画はこちら▼ 。。妙見山の処刑場跡地「しおき場」の場所と歴史。。「しおき場」は非常に入り組んだ山奥にあり、車で近くまで行き、歩いて入るしか方法はありません。入り口に 鳥居 があるのですぐにわかると思います。小屋 がある場所が しおき場（処刑場跡地） で、近くには霊を鎮魂するための 慰霊碑 が建てられています。
しおき場のふもとには 川 が流れているのですが、この川は通称 「首洗の川」 と呼ばれています。この首洗の川も心霊スポットです。しおき場の歴史は、中世の戦国時代にまでさかのぼります 。かつてこの近くに ２つの村 があったのですが、長年争いが絶えず、多くの 死者 が出たといいます。。荒れっぷりを見かねた当時の将軍 「豊臣秀吉」 は、「双方の村から 代表者5人 を選出して、 交換処刑 することで争いを治めろ」と命じました。その後、実際に各村から5人が差し出され、 処刑 されました。
その場所がここ、しおき場のルーツだとされています。当時の慰霊碑 は今も残されています。そして 江戸時代末期～大正時代に入るまで の間には、実際に罪人を処刑するための 処刑場 が建てられていました。しおき場では罪人は主に、 斬首 もしくは 磔（はりつけ） によって処刑されたといいます。斬った首はふもとに流れる川（首洗の川）で洗い、いわゆる「さらし首」にして、朽ち果てるまで放置されました 。霊能者もNGを出す！？大阪最恐の心霊スポット「妙見山のしおき場」。
。妙見山の処刑場跡地「しおき場」は近畿ではかなり有名な心霊スポットなので、肝試しに行った人は当然数多くいます。しかしほとんどの人は 「何か重苦しい」「圧迫感がある」「首が痛い」 などの霊障をうったえ、霊感がなくても 空気のよどみ具合に吐き気をもよおす 人もいたとか。除霊や心霊スポットのロケを行うこともありましたが、 多くの霊能者がNGを出した といういわくまであります。最近でも、心霊系YouTuberの ウマヅラビデオ さんと霊能者の クロ戌（黒戌仁） さんがしおき場を訪れたのですが…… 体調不良 に見舞われてしまい、 絶対に行ってはいけない と念を押していました。
。この処刑場、本当に罪を犯した人を処刑したのならいわば自業自得なのですが……残念ながら当時は、 「無実の罪」で斬首される人がかなり多かった らしいです。事件が発生して犯人が見つからなかった場合、 犯人のかわりに「誰か」を処刑した というのです。そんな無念を抱えたまま死んだ者が多かったなら、しおき場が祟られるのも無理ありませんよね 。もししおき場に行かれる際には、必ずスニーカーやブーツなど、 足元が滑りにくい靴 で行くことをオススメします。
