Oibanazaki No. 2 Tunnel is said to have a haunted spot about 100 meters in from the entrance.
According to the rumor, the spirit may be connected to someone who died at Oibanazaki, though the details are unclear. The apparition most often reported is said to be a man.
Many haunted tunnel stories in Japan involve abandoned or disused tunnels, but this one is different: Oibanazaki No. 2 Tunnel opened in 2007 and appears to be a modern road tunnel. Beyond that, little is known about the origin of the story.
The tunnel is listed around Wakimoto Tayazawa Kanamezawa in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, along Funakawa Kaido. If you visit, treat it as an active road tunnel: do not stop inside, walk into traffic, or enter restricted areas.
