The suspension bridge over Lake Chichibu in Otaki, Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture, is tied to several unsettling rumors.
Some say the ghost of a woman who was murdered by being thrown from the bridge appears here. Another rumor claims that if you look down at the lake from the bridge, a spirit may try to drag you in.
The area became more widely known as a haunted spot after horror storyteller Junji Inagawa introduced it in a ghost video. In 2006, six people died in a group suicide using charcoal briquettes near Lake Chichibu, and this incident is often mentioned in connection with the bridge’s reputation.
There are also rumors that other suicides have occurred in the area, though details are unclear.
If you visit, treat the location as a real public place, not just a scary story setting. Stay on permitted paths, do not climb barriers or enter restricted areas, and avoid visiting in dangerous weather or late at night.
