Pyotan Falls in Hokkaido: Rumored Screams in the Waterfall Mist

The Unsolved Disappearance of Mai Ishii: A Girl Vanished from Her Fukushima Home

English Version

Pyotan Falls is located in Minami Satsunai, Nakasatsunai Village, Kasai District, Hokkaido.

According to local rumors, strange sounds can sometimes be heard there at night. Some say that, mixed in with the roar of the waterfall, there is a voice like a woman screaming. Others claim to have heard laughter coming from somewhere nearby, though no one can say for sure where it comes from.

The falls are also said to be known locally as a place associated with suicides. As with many haunted-site rumors, the details are difficult to verify, but the stories have given Pyotan Falls a darker reputation among people interested in eerie places in Hokkaido.

If you visit, go during safe hours, respect local rules, and avoid approaching the waterfall or surrounding natural areas at night or in bad weather.
