In Kyoto’s Kita-Saga Asaharayama-cho area, there is a murky pond known as “Blood Pond.” Local stories say many spirits are present here.
According to one legend, the heads of warriors who died in battle were once washed in this pond. Another story claims that swords stained with human blood were purified at this spot.
The area is also said to have been the site of drownings by suicide and even murders, giving it a reputation as a dangerous and unsettling place. Because the pond lies among thick bushes, it can feel dim even during the day, creating a strange and heavy atmosphere.
Despite the name “Blood Pond,” the water is not actually bright red. It is more of a cloudy, reddish-brown or muddy brown color.
If you visit the area, do so with caution. Stay on public paths, avoid entering overgrown or restricted areas, and do not visit alone or after dark.

霊が沢山いる。かつては、この池の水で死んだ武将の首を洗っていたと言われている。人を切った刀についた血をこの場所で清めていたとも言われている。この付近では、入水自殺や殺人も少なくなく非常に危険な場所と言える。茂みの中にあるため昼間でも薄暗く、奇妙な雰囲気を醸し出す。「血の池」と呼ばれるものの実際にはそこまで赤くなく、茶褐色のような濁った池。京都府京都市北嵯峨朝原山町
