Kumano Shrine in Misato, Akita: The Former Park With a White-Haired Ghost Rumor

Onoko Soshi: The Mysterious Edo-Period Prophecy Said to Predict Modern Japan

English Version

According to local rumor, after the area became an abandoned park, people began reporting sightings of a spirit with white hair.

The place now known as Kumano Shrine is said to have once been a park. One story claims that a tree fell or struck the playground equipment there, crushing it flat.

Because of that abandoned-park atmosphere, Kumano Shrine in Misato, Akita, is sometimes talked about as a small haunted spot rather than an ordinary shrine. The reported location is 27 Rokugo Komemachi, Misato, Semboku District, Akita Prefecture.

If you visit, treat it as a real shrine and local site: stay on publicly accessible paths, do not enter restricted or unsafe areas, and avoid disturbing the grounds or nearby residents.
