The Old Kobetsuzawa Tunnel in Sapporo is rumored to be one of the city’s more unsettling haunted locations.
According to local stories, whenever attempts were made to renovate the tunnel, people connected to the construction work allegedly met with suspicious deaths. The tunnel itself is said to be extremely old and deteriorated, with a rough, unfinished appearance that makes it look as if construction may have been abandoned partway through.
Another grim rumor claims that the tunnel was built during the wartime period using forced labor, and that people who died from overwork were buried inside its walls. Like many haunted-site stories, these details are difficult to verify, but they remain part of the tunnel’s eerie reputation.
The location is associated with Kobetsuzawa, Nishi Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido. Because old tunnels and abandoned infrastructure can be dangerous and may be restricted, do not enter unsafe areas or trespass. If you visit the area, view it only from a safe and legal location.
