English Version
Shomaru Pass is known for rumors of strange phenomena along its mountain road. One story says the ghost of a young man who caused an accident appears here. Another rumor claims that, late at night, someone saw a person sitting on a motorcycle—except the rider had no head.
There is also a story about a traveler heading to an inn beyond the pass. While driving over the mountain, they entered a long, pitch-black tunnel and suddenly felt as if someone had thrown a bucket of water over them. When they arrived at the inn and told the proprietress about the tunnel, she reportedly replied that there was no such tunnel on that route.
Because of stories like these, Shomaru Pass has become known as a place where travelers experience eerie and unexplainable events.
The pass is also a mountain road, with many bends rather than long straight sections. It has numerous hairpin turns and is known as a spot where street racers have competed for speed. Even when driven slowly, it can be dangerous. Accidents have happened here, including fatal ones, and the road’s shape can make it easy for drivers to pick up speed without realizing it.
Shomaru Pass is located around 447 Minamikawa, Hanno City, Saitama Prefecture. If you visit, treat it as a real road first and a haunted site second: drive carefully, obey traffic laws, avoid stopping in unsafe places, and do not race or trespass.
