Obonai Ryokan: Rumors of a Zashiki-Warashi in Iwate

English Version

Obonai Ryokan is popular among people interested in stories of the zashiki-warashi, a childlike household spirit from Japanese folklore. Some visitors have said they saw a zashiki-warashi here, while others claim they experienced small pranks attributed to one.

The inn is also connected to a rumor that began after Ryokufuso, a famous inn known for zashiki-warashi sightings, was destroyed by fire. Because Obonai Ryokan is located not far from the former Ryokufuso area, some people speculate that the spirit may have moved there and now appears at Obonai Ryokan.

Location: 43-5 Yuda, Kindaichi, Ninohe City, Iwate Prefecture.

If you plan to visit, treat it as a working inn and local business. Make reservations or inquiries in advance, respect private areas, and avoid disturbing other guests.
