English Version

Nanbara Tunnel is said to have a few unsettling rumors attached to it.

According to local stories, a spirit may be hiding on the ceiling of the tunnel, waiting for a car to pass before dropping down onto the hood. There are also accounts from people who claim that, while driving through the tunnel, they saw a severed head coming toward them from the darkness ahead.

Another rumor concerns a campground located farther beyond the tunnel. It is said that someone died by suicide in the campground restroom. According to the story, a note was left written on the wall, repeating: “I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die.”

Nanbara Tunnel is located along Hiroshima Prefectural Route 253 in the Nanbara area of Kabe, Asakita Ward, Hiroshima City. If you visit, treat it as an active roadway: do not stop inside the tunnel, block traffic, enter restricted areas, or visit in a way that puts yourself or others at risk.
