Nogata No. 3 Crossing in Nogata, Nakano City, Tokyo, is associated with several grim local rumors.
People have claimed to see what appears to be the spirit of someone who died by suicide near the crossing. Others say that, when standing in front of it, their bodies suddenly refuse to move, as if they have been pinned in place by a case of kanashibari, the Japanese idea often compared to sleep paralysis.
The crossing is also said to be a place where suicides have happened repeatedly. According to the rumor, five people have already taken their own lives there.
Another story tells of an elderly woman who accidentally entered the crossing and was struck and killed by a train. When her body was recovered, her head was allegedly missing. It was said to have been found later in a nearby garden, already decomposed.
The location is given as around 5-35-1 Nogata, Nakano City, Tokyo. If you go looking for it, treat it as an active railway crossing: stay in public areas, never enter the tracks or railway property, and avoid disturbing residents nearby.
