Senbonhama Head Mound: A Headless Warrior Legend in Numazu

Overtoun Bridge: Scotland’s So-Called “Dog Suicide Bridge”
目次

English Version

At night, some locals say a young warrior with no head appears near the Senbonhama Head Mound.

This area in Numazu, Shizuoka, is associated with the Battle of Senbonhama, fought between the forces of Takeda and the Odawara Hojo clan. The story is treated as local rumor rather than confirmed history, but it has long given the site a grim atmosphere.

In 1900, during the Meiji era, a violent storm reportedly knocked down a pine tree here. Beneath it, many human skulls were discovered. According to local accounts, residents gathered the remains and enshrined them at this spot as a memorial.

The site is located around 1910-185 Hon, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. If you visit, be respectful, avoid going at night, and do not enter restricted or private areas.
