English Version
Rumors say that many female spirits appear near Yunohana Tunnel, wearing air-raid hoods and monpe wartime work pants.
The story is tied to a tragic incident near the end of World War II. On August 5, 1945, just before the war ended, a train was machine-gunned by multiple incoming U.S. P-51 fighter planes near the entrance to Yunohana Tunnel. The attack left 49 people dead, though some sources give different numbers, including 52 or more than 65 victims. The incident is known as the Yunohana Tunnel Train Shooting.
The site is associated with Ura-Takao in Hachioji, Tokyo, around 896 Ura-Takao-machi. If visiting the area, be respectful of the history, avoid trespassing, and stay on public roads or designated paths.
