Ibusuki Skyline: Kagoshima’s Rumored Haunted Toll Road

Tatchan Pond in Tokyo: The Sad Legend Behind Yakebe Pond
目次

English Version

The Ibusuki Skyline in Kagoshima is said to have several unsettling urban legends attached to it.

Among the rumors are stories of a “High-Speed Old Woman” who supposedly races past at an incredible speed, a “Teke Teke” that chases people using only its upper body, and an old woman who clings to cars and refuses to let go. Because of tales like these, some people apparently call it a terrifying toll road.

The road is known for its many curves, and accidents can happen easily if drivers are careless. Some say the spirits of people who died in accidents here may still linger, unable to pass on.

The area is in Hirakawa-cho, Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture. If you drive the Ibusuki Skyline, treat it first and foremost as a real mountain road: obey traffic laws, stay alert on curves, and do not stop in unsafe places just to look for ghost stories.
