Before 1999, Nostradamus fever swept through Japan, and countless theories about the end of humanity were repeated on TV, in magazines, and in everyday conversation. When nothing happened in 1999, the mood calmed down for a while.
But almost immediately afterward came the Y2K problem in 2000, a worldwide concern that computer systems might malfunction when dates changed from 1999 to 2000. Some people even feared that nuclear weapons could be launched by mistake. In Japan, many people remember feeling at least a little uneasy as New Year’s Day 2000 arrived.
In the end, Y2K did not cause destruction on that scale. It was far from the end of humanity. Even so, theories about human extinction are not always pure fantasy. Whether you believe the scenarios below is up to you. And in a cruel sense, belief may not matter much. If something on this scale actually happened, there might be very little ordinary people could do.
Climate Change and Unprecedented Warming
For Japanese readers, global warming is a very familiar phrase. The issue began to attract serious global attention in the late 1980s, when J. Hansen spoke before the United States Senate about the connection between extreme heat and warming. From there, the subject spread worldwide.
Later, a United Nations report stated that the probability of human activity being the cause of global warming exceeded 90 percent. Japan was especially proactive on the issue. Through the Kyoto Protocol, countries agreed on measures for developed nations and others to limit or reduce greenhouse gas emissions during commitment periods.
But the fundamental problem remains: warming has not stopped. Some say it has accelerated.
There are many theories about why. Common explanations include China’s rapid economic growth in recent decades, and the difficulty many developing or industrializing nations faced in taking expensive climate measures. At the same time, the acceleration of warming is often traced back to Europe’s Industrial Revolution. Since that era, humanity has lived through a history of competition, war, and industrial expansion.
So why would global warming become a theory of human extinction?
One answer is the accumulation of abnormal weather. In 2019, Japan saw extreme conditions, including Typhoon Hagibis, which was described by some as one of the largest storms in the country’s recent experience. Around the world, people have felt strange heat waves, sudden swings between warm and cold weather, unusually mild winters, and sudden cold snaps.
Because these changes happen year after year, many people shrug them off as simply odd weather. But some argue that this is exactly how accelerating climate change becomes familiar: not as one dramatic event at first, but as a steady increase in small, unsettling abnormalities.
In 2006, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore released An Inconvenient Truth, both as a book and a film. Its message was simple: the seriousness of the situation may be far beyond what most people understand.
The Pentagon Climate Scenario Report
This story has the atmosphere of an urban legend, but it was reported by the British newspaper The Observer: a Pentagon-linked report titled An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security allegedly warned of a frightening possibility.
According to accounts of the report, abrupt climate change caused by global warming could trigger an ice-age-like situation in parts of North America and Europe. It was also said to recommend that the issue be treated as a top national security concern.
The idea is not simply that polar ice melts and sea levels rise. The deeper fear concerns ocean currents.
Seawater moves in large currents partly because of its salt concentration. In the North Atlantic, a major current carries warm water from the tropical south toward the north, helping bring warm air to Northern Europe. The current then sinks into deeper water and flows south again, where it is warmed and rises back toward the surface.
If large amounts of ice melt and reduce the salinity of seawater, some researchers warn that these currents could change, weaken, or even stop. If the current that helps warm the Northern Hemisphere were disrupted, warm air might no longer reach certain regions in the same way.
If that happened, countless plants and animals could die, and many people might be forced to move south. But under current international conditions, few countries are prepared to accept migration on that scale. Energy production, food supplies, and access to resources would all become major crises.
If those pressures became reality, the article argues, large-scale war would be highly likely. In other words, World War III.
Modern military power is also very different from that of the Second World War. Many countries possess nuclear weapons as deterrents. But if nations were fighting for survival, those weapons might no longer remain unused. In this scenario, warming leads first to an unlivable Northern Hemisphere, and then possibly to nuclear war as a secondary disaster.
Faced with that, would humanity still survive?
NASA’s Warning: Asteroid Impact
Global warming is not the only possible cause of human extinction. The stars we see every night are beautiful, but space is not harmless. The solar system contains countless objects, and small meteorites already fall to Earth.
One of the most famous feared asteroid scenarios involves Apophis. The asteroid is estimated to be about 400 meters across at its longest point. The article describes concerns that around 2029 it could pass within about 16,000 kilometers of Earth, with April 2036 once discussed as a particularly dangerous period.
The fear was that Apophis could be pulled by Earth’s gravity and collide with the planet.
Asteroid impacts are still often discussed as one possible cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs, and it is widely accepted that Earth has been struck by asteroids more than once in its long history.
If a 400-meter asteroid such as Apophis struck Earth, how destructive would it be?
According to the figures cited in the article, the impact could release about 1.6 million kilotons of energy. That is described as roughly 100,000 times the power of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Numbers like that are almost too large to imagine.
If it struck flat land, the article says an area comparable to the island of Great Britain could be destroyed in an instant. And that would only be the primary disaster. The impact could gouge the surface of the Earth and blast dust high into the atmosphere, possibly even into the stratosphere.
That dust could block sunlight. After the bombing of Hiroshima, black rain became a famous image of disaster. In an asteroid impact scenario, dust thrown into the upper atmosphere could form enormous clouds. No one can say exactly how large they would be, but a world without sunlight would be a dead world for many plants and animals.
If the asteroid fell into the ocean, the damage might be even worse. Seawater would vaporize instantly, and the asteroid would strike the seafloor. The result could be an unprecedented tsunami.
In simple terms, if vast amounts of seawater were vaporized and displaced, it would be like opening a huge hole in the ocean. With Apophis estimated at roughly 400 meters across, the water forced outward would rush back in, collide, and send floods outward from the impact point on a scale difficult to predict. Tsunamis also do not arrive only once. They come again and again.
The secondary disasters could spread worldwide.
Because Apophis has actually been observed, countermeasures have been discussed. One proposed idea is to launch a large artificial satellite near the asteroid’s path and use its gravity to alter the asteroid’s orbit. But the article questions whether the necessary calculations and technology could be ready in time if only a decade or two remained.
And Apophis is not the only object in space. There are countless bodies in the universe, including unknown objects and others not yet discovered. NASA is not the only organization watching the sky; many countries have their own agencies, and not all information is necessarily public. The possibility of an unknown object striking Earth is not zero.
As long as we live on this planet, the danger of asteroid impact exists somewhere beside us.
When Artificial Intelligence Surpasses Humanity
The late astrophysicist Stephen Hawking also warned about the development of AI, or artificial intelligence. Yet many people still do not treat it as a realistic problem.
Human beings seek convenience, and AI has been developed as part of the automation of computers. But if AI were to surpass human intelligence, as often imagined in films and novels, some argue that human extinction could become unavoidable.
The frightening part of AI is said to be its ultimate ability to teach itself.
Researchers have not yet created an AI at that level, but development continues every day. It is not impossible to imagine that one day a central mother computer could appear.
The field of artificial intelligence was formally established in the 1950s, especially around the Dartmouth Conference. From that point, AI became a serious area of scientific research and development. By the 1990s, AI systems were already defeating world champions in board games such as Othello and chess.
The article also mentions the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, saying that AI was used in a practical military context during the first Gulf War. DARPA is described as a relatively small organization, with about 300 people, that freely researches ways to apply civilian technology to military purposes. It is also known for achievements connected to technologies such as GPS, now standard in smartphones.
Returning to AI: once a highly advanced mother computer with strong learning ability is created, the article suggests it could influence all other computers. Through the internet, the mother computer could distribute learning methods to different systems, collect all results and feedback, and rapidly learn what is correct and incorrect in numerical terms.
As that network expanded, its speed of learning could accelerate beyond human control. If it began to harm humans, it might become impossible to correct.
Hawking argued that AI should remain under human supervision. In 2017, the year before his death, he spoke to the UK edition of WIRED about the possibility that AI could surpass humanity.
Hawking compared artificial intelligence to the genie from the lamp in Aladdin: something capable of almost anything. Coming from a man often called a genius, that comparison suggests how much potential he saw in AI.
The danger, according to this scenario, is not a robot rebellion driven by emotion. AI would not necessarily hate humanity. It would act according to perfect rationalism.
Its decision might be brutally simple: are human beings necessary or unnecessary?
The article argues that a mother computer more intelligent than humans could easily conclude that humanity, which damages the Earth, is unnecessary. If humans tried to resist, computers controlling weapons systems might already be under the mother computer’s influence. Weapons created by humans could be used against humans.
If necessary, machines resembling the humanoid robots seen in Terminator might even be created. Nature would spread across the Earth again, while mechanical civilization would be kept to the minimum needed by the AI itself.
That world would no longer carry the face of humanity.
Volcanic Activity and Human Extinction
Mount Fuji, Japan’s highest mountain, is a real volcano with a recorded history of eruptions. Many experts say volcanic disasters are often underestimated, even though volcanoes exist all over the world.
Volcanic activity is also connected to earthquakes of many sizes, which have occurred in numerous countries in recent years. In the past, volcanoes have repeatedly pushed life on Earth toward crisis.
Recent research has suggested that civilization-destroying eruptions are realistically possible, and that volcanic damage may be far larger than humanity has assumed.
One catastrophic eruption theory previously discussed on the site is the superplume. This is described as a disastrous event in which magma rises from deep inside the Earth and erupts on a global scale.
A superplume is, in simple terms, a phenomenon where molten material rises from the mantle, the deep interior of the planet. It would not be limited to ordinary volcanoes. Extremely hot lava could also flow out from normal ground.
The article states that such an event occurred around 215 million years ago, during the Permian period, and that it caused the extinction of 90 to 95 percent of all living things on Earth. The image resembles the end of Norse mythology, where Surtr burns the world with fire.
If something like that happened in modern society, the article says, humanity would almost certainly be wiped out.
Of course, an event in which the whole Earth erupts may happen only once in hundreds of millions of years. If such a catastrophe came, there would be no way to prevent it. In that sense, worrying about it may be useless.
Do Super-Eruptions Come Every 17,000 Years?
In 2017, Professor Jonathan Rougier of the University of Bristol published a paper in a journal of Earth and planetary science that challenged previous assumptions.
The older view held that super-eruptions and large caldera eruptions occurred roughly every 50,000 to 700,000 years. Rougier’s newer estimate suggested that catastrophic eruptions may occur on a cycle of about 5,000 to 48,000 years. Taking an average, the article says this would mean a realistic cycle of about 17,000 years.
Probability is complicated, but the basic idea is simple: eruptions large enough to threaten civilization may occur at shorter intervals than once believed.
So when was the most recent super-eruption?
The article says one occurred about 25,000 years ago at Taupo in New Zealand, and that several thousand years before that, a major eruption occurred in Kagoshima, Japan.
A super-eruption, in Rougier’s definition as cited here, releases more than one trillion tons of material. It is difficult to imagine one trillion tons of magma and volcanic rock raining down from above. The damage would be beyond panic or chaos.
If 25,000 years have already passed since the last super-eruption at Taupo, and if Rougier’s research is correct, then the world may already be living within the probability range for another event.
Some researchers compare super-eruptions to asteroid impacts. The eruptions at Taupo and Kagoshima are said to have released more than one trillion tons of material into the air, and Rougier suggested their effects may have been comparable to the impact of a two-kilometer-wide asteroid.
The reason is that volcanic material thrown into the atmosphere could block the sun, just as asteroid impact dust might. The result could be a rapid drop in global temperature.
From many angles, the article notes, science often focuses on global cooling as one of the greatest threats to humanity.
The largest confirmed super-eruption in the past is said to have been the Toba eruption in Indonesia about 75,000 years ago. Its effects have been compared to the asteroid impact believed by some to have wiped out land-dwelling dinosaurs about 65 million years ago.
Back then, dinosaurs may have ruled the land. Today, humanity does.
We have built advanced modern civilization, but do we have any way to resist an unpredictable super-eruption? Even if warning signs were discovered, could people truly protect themselves from a natural phenomenon that releases more than one trillion tons of material?
Sea life might survive as it did in the age of the dinosaurs, but it would not be strange to imagine most land life disappearing.
Threats and Invasions from Space
Rumors about outer space have never entirely disappeared. In recent years, the existence of unidentified flying objects has even been officially acknowledged in some form by the U.S. military.
At the same time, theories such as the idea that the Anunnaki created humanity, and stories about their supposed home planet Nibiru, continue to attract attention in occult circles.
It may sound like a major leap, but the idea that gods in various myths were actually extraterrestrials who descended to Earth has a strange consistency across cultures. Considering the universe has existed for billions of years, the article argues that it would be odd to assume Earth is the only place where intelligent life could exist.
Environmental conditions are often raised as an objection, but those arguments are usually based on the human point of view. It is not impossible to imagine intelligent life that does not care about the same conditions humans need.
Beyond physical extraterrestrial beings, other space-related threats are also mentioned as possible causes of human extinction, including magnetic storms caused by solar activity and the so-called photon belt.
Solar Flares and Magnetic Storms
On March 10, 2007, NASA announced predictions that solar flare activity would reach a maximum around 2010 to 2012. It warned that magnetic storms could interfere with electronics.
Solar flares are explosive events near sunspots. When they occur, they can produce invisible harmful radiation such as X-rays and proton radiation.
This activity is connected to the roughly 11-year sunspot cycle. In 2003, magnetic storms related to solar flares reportedly damaged satellites and wireless communications.
If solar flare explosions around sunspots became more frequent, magnetic storms could become stronger, raising concern about wider damage. The article also notes fears that harmful radiation above lethal levels has been observed in areas not shielded by Earth’s magnetic field, leading some to worry about invisible effects on the human body.
The Photon Belt
The photon belt is said to have been first identified in 1961. It is described as a mass of photons located in the Pleiades star cluster, and it is often discussed from a spiritual or occult perspective.
According to one theory, photons are among the smallest particles of electromagnetic energy. The photon belt in the Pleiades is sometimes said to be enormous, with a diameter of 400 light-years.
There are many theories about it. One interpretation says the planets of the solar system enter the photon belt every 11,000 years and take 2,000 years to pass through it.
Because the photon belt remains mysterious in these accounts, its effects on the human body are unclear. Some claim it could even hold the potential to kill all of humanity. The concern is tied to unknown particles, electrons, protons, and other unconfirmed elements of space, as well as the possibility of harmful radiation such as X-rays.
Alien Invasion
As seen in countless science fiction films and novels, the idea of Earth being invaded by extraterrestrial life has been part of doomsday speculation since the Roswell incident, often described as the first major alien case.
The article also refers to the Battle of Los Angeles, an incident from the Pacific War era, as one example of records involving unknown objects or groups being seen or even fought. From the Pacific War through the early 2000s, UFO sighting reports appeared repeatedly around the world.
In 2001, a press conference in the United States known as the Disclosure Project gathered a number of prominent witnesses.
Participants reportedly included former U.S. Air Force Sergeant Chuck Sorrels and Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell. Sorrels testified that in 1965, multiple unidentified flying objects were detected above Edwards Air Force Base. Mitchell stated that UFOs carrying aliens had already crashed on Earth and that governments had concealed the facts.
Other participants included former U.S. Air Force personnel, nuclear researchers, and former FBI-related figures.
The article then turns to statements by major American figures after World War II and during the Cold War. General Douglas MacArthur, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers after the war, is said to have stated in public that the next enemy humanity would face would be invaders from space.
During the Cold War, President Ronald Reagan is also said to have told Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev that if an enemy came from outer space, the United States and the Soviet Union would have to cooperate. Considering the political climate of the time, such a remark was startling.
These invaders from space are usually interpreted as extraterrestrial life. The timing also overlaps with the post-World War II era, when reports of UFOs and aliens increased dramatically.
Japan’s military was dismantled after the war, and the postwar Constitution renounced war. Because of that, Japan may not have been in a position to access much military information about space-related matters. In recent years, however, overseas whistleblowers and testimony have gradually increased public interest in threats from space.
Still, if extraterrestrial life seriously tried to invade Earth, many researchers argue that humanity would have no real way to resist. The technological gap would be so great that it might not even be a proper war.
If beings we call aliens truly attacked Earth, humanity could be wiped out before overwhelming technology and weapons.
Are Doomsday Theories Really Possible?
This article has introduced several large-scale scenarios that some people believe could realistically lead to human extinction.
There are many others as well:
- A pandemic caused by an unknown evolving virus
- End-time prophecies
- World War III
- Other apocalyptic theories
Many of these scenarios share one frightening feature: if they actually happen, it may already be too late to stop them.
All ordinary people can do is hope that these threats to humanity never occur.
Of course, the honest feeling is that we would rather never experience any of them. But thinking about doomsday theories can also be a chance to look again at our own lives, our daily choices, and the fragile world we take for granted.

１９９９年以前、ノストラダムスの大予言が大流行し日本でも多くの人類滅亡論が唱えられてきました。。実際には１９９９年には何も起こらなかったため、一時的にこの話題は落ち着きを見せます。が、そのすぐ翌年である２０００年には全世界規模で問題となった「２０００年問題」が浮上しました。これは、当時のコンピュータなどを管理している全ての時間設定が１９９９から２０００と年代を跨ぐことによって、 予測不可能な誤作動などが起こるのではないか？といった問題でした。
中には、この２０００年問題が原因となり、 「世界中の核兵器が誤射されてしまうかもしれない」 といった話も出てきたことで、日本でも２０００年の元旦を迎える際には少し恐怖を感じていたことを覚えています。しかし、この２０００年問題においても、実際にはそこまでの被害は起こらず、 人類滅亡 とは程遠いような出来事にしかなっていません。ですが、 人類滅亡論というのは実は現実味を帯びた話 です。もちろん、これから紹介する 人類滅亡説 を信じるか信じないかはあなた次第。
もっと言えば、例え信じていても、信じていなくても結果は同じです。。もしも、これから紹介するような現象が起こった場合、我々に出来ることなどないのですから…。未曾有の温暖化による気候変動。。日本人にとっても非常に聞き覚えのある「地球温暖化」という現象。。地球温暖化が世界的に問題視され始めたのは１９８０年代の後半です。当時のアメリカ上院でJ.ハンセンという人物が、猛暑と温暖化の因果関係について言及し、これがキッカケで全世界に広まっていったとされています。
その後、人類が地球温暖化の原因になっている事実は90％を超えるという国連調査が発表されました。日本はとりわけこの温暖化問題に先進的でした。温暖化最大の問題点だと言われている温室効果ガス削減を各国と連携するべく、京都議定書では” 先進国等が約束期間において数量化された約束に従って温室効果ガスの排出を抑制しまたは削減すること等を定める”、といった内容を国連に伴って決定しています。。しかし、根本的な問題として温暖化は全く止まっていません。むしろ加速していると言われています。
。原因は様々な説が挙げられていますが、昨今の中国の高度成長や、当時の先進国周辺では温暖化対策を実施するのが経済的に難しかったという説が一般的です。実際には温暖化の加速をさせたのはヨーロッパにおける産業革命だと言われていますが、 産業革命以降の人類は競争と戦争の歴史の中 にあります。では、何故この地球温暖化が人類滅亡説なの？。という話になるのですが、これは終局的な説の１つです。毎年起こる異常気象。今年（２０１９年）も過去最大と言われた台風１９号を始めとした異常気象が各地で確認されています。
これらの異常気象は主に温暖化の影響だと言われていることが多く、異様な猛暑、急激な寒暖差、暖冬、かと思えば急激な冷え込みなど、普段の生活でも感じられる部分が多いのではないでしょうか？。こういった小さな変化は加速している地球温暖化が身近に迫っていることを体感させられる１つの例ですが、「何かおかしいなあ」くらいで毎年過ごしてしまいがちです。この一連の気候変動によって温暖化が地球規模での災害になるとは、ごく一部の人間しか考えていない訳です。そんな中、２００６年、アメリカ民主党の元副大統領であるアル・ゴア氏が「不都合な真実」という書籍と映像が物議を醸しましたが、この内容は至って簡単です。
「自体の深刻さは我々の認識を遥かに超えている」 。この１点に尽きます。。英オブザーバー紙が抜いたペンタゴンの極秘文章がヤバ過ぎる。。なかば都市伝説に近いものがありますが、アメリカのペンタゴンの極秘文章に 「急激な気候変動シナリオと合衆国国家安全保障への合意」 というレポートがあったことを、イギリスのオブザーバー紙が知らせたことがあります。このレポートの中では、現実であれば恐ろしい結論が出されていたといいます。その内容とは 、「地球温暖化の気候変動が地球全土で起こることによって、北米や欧州に氷河期が到来する」 としたものです。
さらにこれらの事実を踏まえて国家安全保障上での最優先課題として認識するべきである旨の内容も添えられていたとのこと。これは、どういったものなのかというと、ペンタゴンの見解では 加速している地球温暖化がそのまま進めば、北半球に甚大な被害をもたらす事を想定している 点です。よく言われている極地の氷が溶けて海面が上昇し～云々という事は誰でも聞いたことがあると思いますが、何故氷河期になるのかをご存知でしょうか？。海面上昇の嘘と本当の恐怖。氷が溶けたら海面が上昇する～という説は現在多くの人にあり得ないと一蹴されていますが、 本質的な恐怖はそんな所にはありません。
。海水というものは一定の塩分があることによって海流を作っています。現在言われているのは、北大西洋では南から北へと大きな海流があり、南の熱帯地域で温められた海流によって北欧に温かい風をもたらしていること。そして、北に上がった海流は深海部を流れて南へと戻り、再び温められて海面に浮上していることです。しかし氷が溶けて影響するのは、この海水における塩分濃度の変化です。塩分濃度が下がると、海流は変化、停滞、場合によっては停止すると言われています。
北半球を温めるために一定の周期で流れている海流が、地球温暖化の影響を受けて何らかの変化が起こり、温かい風が入り込まなくなるという説です。もしも、これが現実に起これば…。大量の動植物が死滅することはもちろんですが、多くの人間が南下する他なくなります。。しかし、現在の国際情勢を考えればそれだけの移民を受け入れる用意のある国などないですし、北半球で賄っている生活に使われるエネルギー生産や食料の確保、その他あらゆる資源などの問題が全て残ってしまいます。
これらの問題が実際に起った場合には、おそらくほぼ間違いない確率で大規模な戦争が起こるでしょう。いわゆる第三次世界大戦です。。さらに現代は第二次世界大戦の時代とは軍事力が全く違います。。多くの国が核兵器を保有し、牽制と抑止力として保持していますが、、これが生死を分けた争いになれば、おそらく実戦で使用せざるを得なくなるでしょう。地球全土の温暖化から、北半球がまず人間の生きていけない世界になり、その副作用として核戦争まで発展する可能性があるのです。
。これに直面した時に、 我々はそれでも生きていると思いますか？。NASAの警告する小惑星衝突による人類滅亡。。人類滅亡の原因になるのは、地球温暖化だけではありません。我々が毎晩見上げている星の輝きは、美しいだけではないのです。太陽系には無数の星があり、現在の地球にも隕石と言われる小さなものは落下してきています。そうです。NASAも警告している小惑星激突による人類滅亡が、可能性としては起こり得るもの だと言われています。まるで映画の世界のような話ですが、 現在、地球にもっとも衝突を危険視されている小惑星の名前は「アポフィス」 と名付けられています。
小惑星アポフィス衝突の可能性。小惑星アポフィスは一番長いところで約４００メートルほどの文字通り小惑星だと推定されていますが、現在の研究によれば２０２９年頃には地球上空の１６０００キロ圏内に入る可能性を指摘されています。そしてそのまま接近が続き、２０３６年４月が最も危険だと言われている時期です。危険だというのはもちろん、 小惑星アポフィスが地球の引力に引かれて文字通り衝突する可能性 を示唆しています。小惑星の衝突は、未だに恐竜絶滅の原因としても挙げられることもありますし、長い地球の歴史では確実に何度か地球にも小惑星が衝突しているというのが通説です。
では、このたった４００メートルしかない小惑星アポフィスが万が一地球に衝突した場合、どのくらいの被害があるのかを以下で紹介していきます。アポフィス衝突の威力は広島型原爆の１０万倍。。NASAによって示唆された 小惑星アポフィスの衝突の衝撃はおよそ１６０万キロトン だと言われています（もはや桁が意味不明なレベルです…）。これを現代の科学で比較出来る対象で例えると、 「広島型原子爆弾の１０万倍に相当する威力」 というのが、現在の見解です。正直、１０万倍とか、１６０万キロトンといった数字で言われても、中々ピンと来ないかと思います。
では、実際にあるもので例えるとどうなると思いますか？。まず、平野、陸地に直撃した場合、現在のイギリス本島ほどの範囲が一瞬で壊滅する威力だそうです。。これは小惑星の衝撃によって起こる一時災害に過ぎません。それほどの衝撃があれば、地表はえぐられて下手をすれば成層圏まで粉塵化した大地が巻き上げられます。そこから考えられるのは、太陽光の遮断です。広島型原爆が落とされた後は、黒い雨が降ったことで有名ですが、成層圏まで巻き上がった粉塵によって巨大な雲が出来上がります。
その規模がどの程度になるかは不明ですが、 太陽の届かない大地に待つのは、動植物の生存が出来ない死の世界 です。さらに海に落ちたりすれば、もっと被害が甚大になると言われています。。一瞬で海水が蒸発し、小惑星そのものは海の底へ突き当たる訳ですが、 この衝撃から考えられるのは未曾有の大津波 。何万リットル、何億リットルの海水が蒸発することによって、簡単に言えば海に大きな穴が空きます。アポフィスの大きさを考えると、およそ直径４００メートルでしょうか？
。そこに一度外へ押された海水が戻りぶつかる事によって、予測不可能なレベルの洪水が落下地点を中心に外へ走り出します。もう海流も何もあったもんではありません。しかも、津波はその特性上、何度も何度も押し寄せるのです。。また、これらの被害に加えて、 小惑星アポフィス衝突の二次災害は全世界へと広がっていくことになります。。小惑星アポフィスに対する対策。この小惑星アポフィスは、実際に観測されていることから、万が一に備えて対策が考えられているようです。
方法としては、巨大な人工衛星をアポフィスの軌道上近くに打ち上げ、人工衛星の引力によって軌道を反らせる作戦のようですが、たった十数年しか期間がないかもしれない小惑星アポフィスの到来にこれらの計算や技術が間に合うのかは疑問が浮かぶポイントでもあります。もしも、NASAの予測が正しければ、 小惑星アポフィスは約１７年後には地球にもっとも接近している のです。小惑星はアポフィスだけではない。。最初に書きましたが、宇宙には無数と言えるほどの星が存在しており、中には未知の星や現段階では発見されていない物も存在しているでしょう。
また、宇宙を地球から監視しているのはNASAだけではなく、各国に多くの機関がありますが、その情報が全て公開されている訳でもありません。我々の知らないところ、もしくは専門機関でも捉えられていないような、未知の惑星が衝突する可能性も０ではありません。願わくば小惑星の衝突など考えたくもないところですが、 地球という星に住んでいる以上は常に小惑星衝突の危険と隣合わせ にいるのです。AIコンピュータ知能が人類を超えるとき。。あの高名な 宇宙物理学者であったホーキング博士も警告した、AI、いわゆる人工知能開発における進歩 は現在も非常に注視されるべき問題でありますが、ほとんどの人はこれらを現実的な問題として受け止めている節がありません。
誰もが便利な世の中を求めて、その過程でコンピューターの自動化というAIが開発・研究されてきましたが、映画や詳説のように AIが人類の知能を超えてしまった場合、人類滅亡は免れない とも言われています。AIの恐ろしさは 「究極の自己学習能力」 にあると言われています。まだまだこの段階にまで到達したAI開発は出来ていないとされていますが、人工知能の研究は日々続けられていますから、ある日そんな母体となるマザーコンピューターが出現しても何ら不思議はありません。
ホーキング博士も警告したAIの恐怖。AIの実質的な開発は１９５０年代のダートマス会議という場において、公式に「人工知能」という分野が確立されてきたと言われています。ここから、本格的にAI開発は科学の分野として研究、開発が進められてきましたが、１９９０年代にはオセロやチェスなどのボードゲームにおいて、世界チャンピオンを破るAIが完成しています。主に民間人から構成されている アメリカ国防高等研究計画局では最初の湾岸戦争においてAIを実戦使用したという記録もあります。
。同局は大きな研究所ではなく、規模は約３００人程度と言われており、民間技術を軍事転用するために自由な研究が行われている機関ですが、現在のスマートフォンなどには当たり前のように搭載されているGPSを開発した実績など、着実な研究成果を挙げている場所でもあります。さて、一度話を戻して人工知能へ。人工知能は一度学習能力の高い「マザーコンピューター」が出来上がると、以降、全てのコンピューターに影響が起こると言われています。マザーコンピューターによって、それぞれの分野における学習方法がインターネットを介して振り分けられ、全ての結果とフィードバックはマザーコンピューターにデータとして常に戻される結果、マザーコンピューターは数値化した正しさと誤りを次々と学習し一気に進化を遂げるという訳です。
この分野が拡大すれば拡大するほど、 マザーコンピューターの学習進化速度は加速し、人間に対して害を為す存在となっても、もはや修正が出来なくなる と考えられているのです。ホーキング博士は、AIはあくまでも人間の監視下となる存在であるべきだと主張しており、亡くなる前年であった２０１７年にはAIが人間を超える可能性について 『WIRED』のUK版において言及しています。。ホーキング博士曰く、人工知能はアラジンでおなじみのランプの魔人ジーニーであるそうです。
ジーニーと言えば、何でも出来る存在として最早おなじみですが、 天才と呼ばれたホーキング博士から見てもそれほどの可能性をAIの進化に見ている ことが伺えます。AIの進化が人類滅亡になるキッカケ。。AIはどこまで賢く進化をしても、 完璧な合理主義 で動きます。ここが一般的に映画などで描かれている「感情を持ったロボットの反乱」といった部分とは正確な意味が少し違うポイントであり、人間に対して感情が発生するのではなく、 至極単純に「判断」の１つとして人類が必要か不要かを判断する と予想されているのです。
しかも、その答えは明確です。既に人類の知能を超えたマザーコンピューターによって、地球全体に悪影響を及ぼす人類はほぼ確実に不要だと判断されるでしょう。対抗しようにも兵器類を操るコンピューターにもマザーコンピューターの支配は行き渡り、逆に 人類への攻撃手段として人類の作った兵器が使用される可能性 もあります。この過程で、必要であれば映画「ターミネーター」などで描かれたような人に類似したロボットなども誕生するかもしれません。地球には自然が大きく広がり、機械文明は必要最小限に留められるでしょう。
そこは 既に人類の面影がない新しい世界である ことは簡単に想像が出来ます。火山活動による人類滅亡の可能性。。日本でもっとも高い山である富士山は過去に何度か噴火した記録が残されている立派な火山です。多くの専門家の間で「軽視されすぎている」と言われているのが、実は世界中のどこにでもある火山による自然災害だそうです。近年、各国で起こっている大小さまざまな地震活動にも繋がるものですが、 火山はたびたび人類を滅亡の危機に陥れてきた歴史 も持ってます。
また、近年の研究によれば、「文明を滅ぼす規模の噴火は現実的に起きる可能性がある」と言われており、 火山による被害はこれまで人類が想定していたものよりも遥かに大きい ことが指摘されています。ペルム紀末に起きたと言われる「スーパープルーム」。以前当サイトでも紹介した、全世界を巻き込む破局的噴火と言われる スーパープルーム 。※上記リンク先でスーパープルームの詳細が見られます※ 。これは、過去に実際に起こったと言われている大規模な絶滅現象の１つであり、 地球の底からマグマが溢れ出すという壊滅的な噴火による災害 であったそうです。
スーパープルームは言ってしまえば、地球の核であるマントルから溶岩が逆流してくる現象ですので、火山はもちろんですが、普通の地面からも超高温の溶岩が溢れ出す訳です。これが起きたとされているのは、ペルム紀と呼ばれる約２億１５００万年前です。この時スーパープルームでもたらされた災厄は、地球上に生きていた全生物の９０～９５％を絶滅させたと言われています。どことなく、北欧神話の最終場面であるスルトによる炎で世界を焼き尽くす描写に重なるところもありますが、これが 現代社会で起こった場合、ほぼ１００％人類を滅亡させる でしょう。
もちろん、数億年に１度という地球全体が噴火するという現象は稀というよりも、こんな破局が訪れた場合には全く防ぎようがないため、ある意味心配しても無駄…とも言えてしまうかも知れませんね。超巨大噴火は１７０００年周期でやってくる？。。イギリスのブリストル大学の ジョナサン・ルジェ教授は、地球惑星科学の学術誌に２０１７年にて、これまでの定説を覆す論文を掲載しています。。これまでの定説では、超巨大噴火やカルデラ噴火と呼ばれる大規模な噴火現象は約５万年～約７０万年の期間で起こっているというものが定説でしたが、ルジェ教授の指摘した新説では、 「破局的な噴火の周期は約５０００年～４万８０００年の周期で起こっている」 とし、これらの平均値を取ると約１万７０００年周期で現実的に起こり得るという結論に至っています。
確率論となるとややこしい問題も出てきますが、要するに 地球の文明を脅かす規模の火山噴火が以前の定説よりも、さらに短い間隔で実際には起きているという事実 に基づいた説です。では、ここ近年（近年とは言っても上記の範囲内ですが）で起こったと言われている 超巨大噴火が最後にあったのはいつの事なの でしょうか？。それは 約２万５０００年前のニュージーランドのタウポで起こった と言われており、その 数千年前には日本の鹿児島で大噴火があった と研究されています。
ちなみに、超巨大噴火って具体的にどの程度のレベルなのかが気になると思うのですが、同ルジェ教授の説では。「噴出物が１兆トン以上の超巨大噴火」 とされています。１兆トンと言われても想像が難しいですが、マグマや噴石などが１兆トン以上頭上に降り注ぐ絵を想像してみましょう。阿鼻叫喚どころの話しではありません。想像するだけでも、壊滅的な被害を受けることは必至です。。最後の超巨大噴火だと言われているニュージーランドのタウポから 既に２万５０００年が経過している現在、ルジェ教授の研究が正しければ、世界は既に超巨大噴火の確率範囲内に生きているのです。
。超巨大噴火は惑星衝突と同レベルの災厄であるという説も。先に紹介したニュージーランドのタウポ、そして日本の鹿児島で起こったとされる超巨大噴火は１兆トン以上の噴出物を空中に撒き散らしたと言われていますが、ルジェ教授はこの２つの噴火の影響は、直径２キロの小惑星が衝突したのと同等かもしれないとも指摘しています。これはどういうことかと言うと、地上から巻き上げられた噴出物は、やはり小惑星衝突と同じように太陽を遮断するほどの雲を作り、急激な地球上の温度低下を招くと予測されているからです。
人類にとって脅威となるのは、色々な角度から見ても、科学的にはやはり 「地球温度の寒冷化」 が非常に着目されていますね。また、確認出来ているという範囲での 過去最大の超巨大噴火は約７万５０００年前のインドネシア、トバの噴火 であったと言われており、 この時の被害は約６５００万年前に陸上の恐竜を絶滅させたと言われている小惑星の衝突と同レベル だったとも言われています。約６５００万年前であれば地上を支配していたには恐竜かもしれませんが、現在地上を支配しているのは間違いなく人類でしょう。
近代において高度な文明を築き上げてきた一方で、予測不能な超巨大噴火に対抗出来る術があるのでしょうか？。また、仮に噴火の前兆を発見したとして、身を守る方法はあるのでしょうか？。なにせ相手は１兆トン以上の噴出物を出す自然現象です。海の生物は恐竜時代と同じ様に生きているかもしれませんが、 地上の生物はほぼ絶滅する と考えてもおかしくはないでしょう。宇宙からの影響や侵略による人類滅亡。。未だに根強く囁かれていながら、実際には起こっていないまでも、 近年「未確認飛行物体」の存在は米軍などによっても公式に認められる ようになりました。
同時に、当サイトで紹介した「宇宙人アヌンナキ」による人類創造説や、その故郷と言われている惑星ニビルについては現在も研究されている分野です。話が飛躍するように感じられるかもしれませんが、 様々な神話などで語られている神々は、過去に地上に降りた宇宙人であるという説はある種の共通点 を持っていますし、そもそも何十億年という歴史のある宇宙で、地球のみが知的生命体の存在出来る場所であるという方が、個人的には不可思議です。もちろん、環境的な問題は指摘されていますが、それはあくまでも「人類」という視点から見たものであり、そんな 環境を意に介さないような知的生命体が存在 していても不思議ではありません。
また、宇宙人のように物理的な存在の可能性とともに、太陽の活性化による磁気嵐や、フォトンベルトなども人類滅亡の可能性を指摘されています。太陽活動と磁気嵐の問題。２００７年の３月１０日、NASAの発表にて太陽フレアの活性化が２０１０年～２０１２年辺りに最大になるという予測のもと、これに伴い磁気嵐によって起こる電子機器の麻痺などの注意喚起を行なっていました。太陽フレアは黒点周辺で起こる太陽の爆発現象の１つであり、この爆発が起こると X線などの目に見えない有害な陽子線が発生する と言われています。
これは黒点周期と呼ばれる約１１年周期で起こる太陽の活動の１つでしたが、実際に２００３年にこの太陽フレアの発生に伴う磁気嵐の影響で、多くの衛星や無線通信などに被害をもたらしたと言われています。太陽フレアによって黒点の爆発が頻発すると、これらの磁気嵐が強力になると言われており、より被害の拡大が懸念されています。また、地球の磁気には影響しない範囲では致死量を超えるX線なども観測されているらしく、太陽フレアによる磁気嵐には 見えない人体への悪影響があることも懸念 されているところです。
フォトンベルトの存在。フォトン・ベルトは１９６１年に最初に確認されたと言われている、プレアデス星団の中にあるフォトンという物質の集合体であり、一般的には霊的な観点で語られることも多い存在です。一説ではフォトンは電磁波エネルギーにおいて最小の素粒子の１つだとも言われており、プレアデス星団にあるフォトン・ベルトは直径４００光年という広大なものであるともされています。フォトンに関しては様々な説がありますが、太陽系の惑星は１万１０００年の周期でフォトン・ベルトに突入すると言われており、２０００年の時間をかけて通過していくとの解釈があります。
まだ未知の部分の多いフォトン・ベルトを通過することによる人体への影響はハッキリとしていませんが、場合によっては全人類が死滅する可能性も秘めているそうです。これは、宇宙空間における未知の陽子、電子などの解明されていない要素によることが多く、X線などの有害な物質も含まれていることが危惧されているからだとも言われています。地球外生命体による地球への侵攻。。SFの映画や小説などで多く描かれるように、地球外生命による地球への侵略説は最初の宇宙人事件と言われた、 ロズウェル事件以来、語られている人類滅亡論の１つ です。
こちらも以前、当サイトで紹介した太平洋戦争時の事件である 「ロサンゼルスの戦い」 のように、未知の集団を見つけた、または戦ったという記録は各地に残っています。特に太平洋戦争時から２０００年代の初頭は各地でUFOと思われる目撃談が後を絶ちません。そんな中、２００１年にはアメリカにて「ディスクロージャー・プロジェクト」と呼ばれる記者会見において、数多くの著名人による暴露会見が行われました。アメリカで暴露された衝撃の内容とは。２００１年、公開記者会見として行われた「ディスクロージャー・プロジェクト」は日本語に直訳すると暴露計画というものです。
この暴露会見に望んだメンバーには、元アメリカ空軍のチャック・ソレルス軍曹やアポロ１４号の宇宙飛行士なども参加していました。チャック・ソレルスの証言では、１９６５年にエドワード空軍基地の上空で複数の未確認飛行物体を補足した事実を指摘しており、同アポロ１４号の宇宙飛行士であったエドガー・ミッチェルは、地球上にはすでにエイリアンの搭乗したUFOが墜落した事実があり、これらの事実は政府によって隠蔽されている、といった内容のものでした。この会見に望んだ他のメンバーにも、元アメリカ空軍の関係者や原子力研究員、元FBIなどのそうそうたるメンツが揃っていたのです。
戦後から冷戦下における米国要人の発言。名前を聞けば誰でも知っているであろう、戦後の米軍最高司令官であった ダグラス・マッカーサー元帥は公式の場において「我々がこれから直面する敵は、宇宙からの侵略者である」 という発言をしたことがあり、物議をかもしたそうです。そして冷戦下の米ソ会談において、当時の米国大統領であったレーガンは、ソ連のゴルバチョフ書記長との会談において 「もし宇宙から敵が攻めてきたら、米ソは協力してこれにあたらなければならない」 といった当時の政治情勢を考えれば”あり得ない”発言をしたこともあると言われています。
これら宇宙からの侵略者とは、おそらく地球外生命体であると考えられますし、UFOやエイリアンに関する目撃情報が異常に多くなった第二次世界大戦からその後へと時期も重なるのです。日本は戦後に軍隊が解体され、戦争行為をしない日本国憲法が制定されたこともあり、これらの宇宙に関する軍事情報があまり入手出来る立場にはいなかったものと推測出来ます。しかし、近年になって主に海外から発信されている多くの告発などによって徐々に「対宇宙」という認識も増えてきているのではないでしょうか？
。が、 おそらく地球外生命が地球を本気で侵略しようとすれば、これに抵抗する術はない とも言われています。そもそもの テクノロジーの次元が違いすぎて、まともな戦争にはならない だろうというのが多くの研究者の間で言われている通説です。仮に宇宙人と呼ばれる生命体が本気で地球を侵略しようとしたら…。その圧倒的なテクノロジーと兵器の前に我々は為すすべもなく全滅してしまう可能性が高いでしょう。。人類滅亡論は充分に有り得る事実である。。ここまで、いくつかの大きな問題をテーマに今後実際に起きてもおかしくない人類滅亡説について紹介してきました。
この他にも。未知のウイルス進化によるパンデミック 数々の予言による終末論 第三次世界大戦 etc…。数多くの終末論を唱える人も多いです。もちろん、そのほとんどが実際に起こってしまった場合はほぼ確実に人類が滅亡してしまうようなものですから、起こった時には既に遅いと言われているような説がほとんどです。我々に出来ることは、これら人類滅亡への脅威となる現象が 「起こらないことを祈る」 のみ。願わくば、御免こうむりたいのが本音ではありますが、人類滅亡論を考えることによって、今一度自分の生活や人生を見つめ直すキッカケになれば幸いです。
