English Version

Meitsu Tunnel, located along Route 143 in Tojo, Chikuhoku Village, Higashichikuma District, Nagano Prefecture, is tied to a grim local rumor.

According to the story, a young man and woman once died here by self-immolation. Because of that, people say the spirits of a young couple may still appear around the tunnel.

There are also claims that other incidents have occurred in the area over the years, though details are often vague and repeated as rumor. Nearby Aoki Pass has also been associated with darker stories, including reports that the bodies of a young woman and a young boy were once found there.

For travelers interested in haunted places, this is a real road area rather than a tourist attraction. If you visit, go only during safe conditions, do not block traffic, and avoid entering restricted or dangerous areas.
