Old Himi Tunnel in Nagasaki is said to have a disturbing motorcycle-related ghost story attached to it.
According to the rumor, anyone who rides a motorcycle through the tunnel may be chased by the spirit of a woman. The story goes that, long ago, a motorcycle carrying two people was involved in an accident inside the tunnel. The woman riding on the back was allegedly cut in half at the waist.
Perhaps because of that accident, stories later spread of a woman with only an upper body chasing after riders in the tunnel. Since the apparition is said to pursue only motorcycles, some believe the woman’s spirit may still be wandering in search of the lower half of her body, which was left behind on the bike.
There are also rumors of a woman’s scream being heard near the tunnel.
Old Himi Tunnel is associated with the area around Susukizuka-machi, Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture. If you visit, be respectful of local traffic rules, do not stop in unsafe places, and do not enter any restricted areas.
