Yagiyama Bridge in Sendai: A Haunted Spot Linked to Tragic Urban Legends

The Rose Bride: A Quiet European Urban Legend and the Dark Meaning of Roses

English Version

Yagiyama Bridge in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, is often mentioned in local ghost stories and urban-legend circles as a place with a dark reputation.

According to rumors, witnesses have reported seeing numerous hands clinging to the fence, while others claim that the spirits of people who died by suicide have chased them. The bridge has long been known as a suicide spot.

Below the bridge is a steep cliff, and a suicide-prevention fence was installed to stop further tragedies. Even so, incidents reportedly continued. Today, the barrier is said to be a roughly 2-meter-high structure with barbed wire.

The area has more foot traffic during the day. Some daredevil stories describe visiting at night for a scare, but travelers should not treat this as a challenge. If you visit, stay in public areas, do not climb or touch the fencing, avoid unsafe nighttime exploration, and be respectful of the site’s real history.

Location: around 19-1 Nagamachi-Koeji, Taihaku Ward, Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture.
