English Version
Kojoike Tunnel in Kurashiki, Okayama, is tied to a local ghost story about a strange figure known as the “Jet Granny” — an old woman said to race alongside passing cars.
There are actually two tunnels here: the older Kojoike Tunnel for uphill traffic and the newer Kojoike Tunnel for downhill traffic. According to the rumors, the haunted stories are mainly connected to the older uphill tunnel, so that is the one usually mentioned in local accounts.
The Jet Granny is said to run parallel to cars as they pass through or near the tunnel. However, the legend usually describes her as simply keeping pace with the vehicle, and she is not said to cause any direct harm.
There is another story as well: near the entrance to the tunnel, some people claim that the ghost of a fallen warrior has appeared.
The location is around Fukuda, Fukuda-cho, Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. If you visit, use caution around traffic, do not stop in unsafe areas, and avoid entering restricted or dangerous places.
