English Version
Nikyu Dam in Gohara-cho, Kure City, Hiroshima, is associated with an unusual kind of ghost story: a report of someone being tapped on the shoulder in broad daylight, even though no one was there.
Daytime encounters are considered fairly rare in Japanese ghost-spot lore. In this area, however, several unsettling elements are said to overlap.
Near the dam, there is a tunnel where a landslide reportedly occurred during construction, leaving people buried alive. A memorial monument is said to stand there for those who died. There is also a cemetery above the area.
A public restroom has been installed nearby as well, but according to local rumors, some kind of incident happened there in the past. Whether true or not, the place is said to have an unpleasant atmosphere.
Some visitors speculate that the spiritual presence around Nikyu Dam is unusually strong—strong enough that paranormal phenomena might occur even during the day, when spirits are usually believed to be less active.
Location: 2460 Gohara-cho, Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
If visiting, go only to publicly accessible areas, avoid entering tunnels or restricted sites, and be especially careful around roads, water, and isolated facilities.
