English Version

Sanpoji Pond in Nerima, Tokyo, has long been tied to eerie local stories. One rumor says that the spirit of a woman has been seen rising to the surface of the water.

The pond is also connected to a legend from the Muromachi period. According to the tale, the warlord Toshima Yasutsune was defeated in battle by Ota Dokan and threw himself into Sanpoji Pond. It is also said that his daughter, Teruhime, followed him and took her own life in the same waters.

Not every strange story here is supernatural. Around 1993, there were multiple reported sightings of a giant crocodile in the area. A search was carried out, but in the end, no crocodile was ever found.

The site is associated with the area around 1-25-13 Shakujiidai, Nerima-ku, Tokyo. If you visit, go during safe hours, stay on public paths, and do not enter restricted or dangerous areas near the water.
