English Version

Otaki Falls is a waterfall in Kami Town, Kami District, Miyagi Prefecture, at 9 Kanohara Minamitakiniwa.

According to local rumors, photos taken here sometimes show red orb-like lights. The area is also said to be wet and marshy in places, and snakes may appear, so visitors should be cautious underfoot and avoid approaching wildlife.

The waterfall has a dark reputation as a place associated with suicides. Several people are said to have died here in accidents or by suicide, and local stories claim that when someone falls into the plunge pool, the body may not surface for some time.

There is also an older legend connected to rainmaking rituals. In the past, it is said that cats and other animals were thrown into the waterfall as offerings to pray for rain.

If you visit, treat the area as a natural hazard as well as a rumored haunted site. Stay on safe, legal paths, avoid the edge of the falls and the plunge pool, and do not enter restricted or dangerous areas.
