Okuzure Coast, located around Hamatome in Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is tied to a local ghost story about a young girl who died in a terrible traffic accident.
According to the rumor, a three-wheeled motor vehicle carrying a 17-year-old girl once failed to make a curve, overturned, and burst into flames. The driver and the other passengers reportedly escaped while engulfed in fire, and survived. The girl, however, was trapped beneath the vehicle and could not move. She is said to have died in the flames.
Since that accident, people have claimed that the girl’s spirit appears at the site every night. She is described as wearing a white one-piece dress and holding a music box. Some say she stands by the road and waves at people passing by.
There is also a darker part to the legend. After the accident, more crashes were said to occur in the same area. Locals sometimes wonder whether those drivers were somehow drawn in by the waving hand of the girl’s ghost.
Okuzure Coast is a real coastal area with roads, curves, and traffic, so anyone visiting should be careful, avoid stopping in dangerous places, and never enter restricted areas or interfere with local residents.
