English Version

Toyama Kannon is known among some local ghost-story fans as a haunted spot in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture.

One reported experience says that a visitor jokingly rang the temple bell over and over. When they later tried to leave, the car engine would not start. According to the story, the key itself would not turn, and it took dozens of attempts before the car finally started.

There are also stories of people sensing someone’s presence while driving back down the mountain.

The site reportedly became known as a haunted place after rumors spread that the spirit of someone who had died by suicide had been seen there. As with many local legends, these accounts are rumors and personal experiences rather than verified facts.

Location: 93 Miura, Tetaru, Matsushima-machi, Miyagi-gun, Miyagi Prefecture.

If you visit, be respectful of the religious site and local residents. Avoid visiting late at night, do not ring bells or disturb the grounds as a prank, and do not enter restricted areas.
