The Off-Limits Toilet at Misaki Park in Iwaki: A Haunted Rumor from Fukushima

What Was Japan’s Imperial Rescript on Education? The Meiji-Era Text Many People Misunderstand

English Version

Misaki Park in Iwaki, Fukushima, is often mentioned as a haunted spot. According to one account, as the visitor was leaving the park, they saw a woman peering out from the window of a wooden toilet that was marked off-limits.

Her face was described as horribly distorted, and the sight was said to have such force that it felt as if an intense grudge or lingering resentment was coming from her.

The area is also said to be near cliffs, and local rumors claim that there have been many suicides by people jumping from them. As with many haunted-location stories, these details should be treated as rumor rather than confirmed fact.

The location associated with this story is Misaki Park, around 93 Osaku, Onahama Shimokajiro, Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture. If you visit, stay on public paths, obey all posted signs, and never enter closed or restricted buildings.
