The Witch’s House in Kure: A Castle-Like Ruin in Hiroshima’s Mountains

Noma Tunnel: Kansai’s Notorious Haunted Pass Near Osaka
目次

English Version

Deep in the mountains of Kure, Hiroshima, there is said to be an abandoned building that looks almost like a Western-style castle.

Some people call it the Witch’s House. Others reportedly know it as Cinderella Castle or the Castle Villa. No one seems to know for certain who built it, or why.

One rumor says that someone can be seen staring out from behind the barred windows. Whether that story began as a local scare tale or from something people actually witnessed is unclear, but it has helped give the ruin its eerie reputation.

The gate is said to show signs of having been forced open, and the building’s walls are covered with graffiti. Standing there in the mountains, the place raises an obvious question: what happened here?

The location is listed as around 509-88 Nakahata, Yasuura-cho, Kure City, Hiroshima Prefecture. As with any abandoned or possibly private property, do not enter the grounds or buildings without permission. Ruins can be structurally unsafe, and visitors should obey signs, barriers, and local rules.
